Description

Zyprexa (Olanzapine) is an antipsychotic agent. It is typically used for the treatment of bipolar I disorder (extreme mood swings that include emotional highs and lows), treatment-resistant depression in combination with fluoxetine and treatment of the manifestations of schizophrenia (serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Zyprexa (Olanzapine) is typically given up to 3 injections per day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It will be given to you by your doctor or nurse in a clinical or hospital setting. WARNING: The possibility of a suicide attempt is inherent in psychotic illness or bipolar disorder, use with caution in high-risk patients during initiation of therapy.
In addition to its desired action, Zyprexa (Olanzapine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause back pain, or redness/pain/swelling at the injection site, headache
It may cause dry mouth, constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness, stomach pain, weight gain, drowsiness
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to olanzapine or any component of the formulation
Taking Zyprexa (Olanzapine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
