Description
Zofran (Ondansetron) is an antiemetic agent. It is typically used for the management of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic chemotherapy (cancer treatment which causes vomiting), including high dose cisplatin, and radiotherapy, as well as the prevention and treatment of post-operative (after surgery) nausea and vomiting. It may also have other uses.

Zofran (Ondansetron) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. It can be taken with or without food. WARNING: Serotonin syndrome (agitation or restlessness, confusion, rapid heart rate and high blood pressure, dilated pupils, loss of muscle coordination or twitching muscles) has been reported, predominantly when used in combination with other serotonergic agents (e.g., SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs (all are antidepressants), mirtazapine, fentanyl, lithium, tramadol, and/or methylene blue). Use with caution for patients who suffer from liver disease. Avoid using Ondansetron during the first trimester of pregnancy. In addition to its desired action, Zofran (Ondansetron) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause constipation. It may cause fatigue, headache, malaise. It may cause angina pectoris (chest pain), tachycardia (rapid heart rate). It may cause pruritus (itching), skin rash. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Ondansetron or any component of the formulation, concomitant use with apomorphine. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Zofran (Ondansetron) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
