Description
Rilutek (Riluzole) is an anti-glutamate medication. It is typically used to treat people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which can cause muscle degeneration leading to muscle weakness. It is a form of Motor Neurone Disease. It may also have other uses.

Rilutek (Riluzole) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. WARNING: May cause dizziness or somnolence, caution should be used when performing tasks which require alertness (operating machinery or driving). Use with caution in patients with liver impairment. In addition to its desired action, Rilutek (Riluzole) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause nausea, increased liver enzymes (liver damage), dizziness, asthenia (abnormal physical weakness or lack of energy), hypertension (increased blood pressure), peripheral edema (swelling), tachycardia (increased heart rate) It may cause abdominal pain, flatulence (gas), vomiting, urinary tract infection It may cause drowsiness, insomnia, vertigo It may cause arthralgia (joint stiffness) It may cause decreased lung function, increased cough Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to riluzole or any component of the formulation Taking Rilutek (Riluzole) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Rilutek (Riluzole) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
