Description
Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is a blood thinner. It is typically used to treat and prevent deep venous thrombosis (DVT), a condition in which harmful blood clots form in the blood vessels of the legs. These blood clots can travel to the lungs and can become lodged in the blood vessels of the lungs, causing a condition called pulmonary embolism (PE). It may also have other uses.

Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. XARELTO 15 mg and 20 mg tablets should be taken with food. WARNING: As with other anticoagulants, patients taking XARELTO are to be carefully observed for signs of bleeding. It is recommended to be used with caution in conditions with increased risk of haemorrhage. XARELTO administration should be discontinued if severe haemorrhage occurs. XARELTO should be used with caution in patients with moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-49 mL/min), especially in those concomitantly receiving other drugs which increase rivaroxaban plasma concentrations. In addition to its desired action, Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause bleeding (bleeding gums, bloody stools, coughing up blood), difficulty with breathing or swallowing. It may cause dizziness, headache, skin rash, swelling of the face, lips, mouth. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to XARELTO (rivaroxaban) or to any ingredient in the formulation, active clinically significant bleeding, concomitant treatment with any other anticoagulants, hepatic disease associated with coagulopathy (a disease or condition affecting the blood's ability to coagulate), and having clinically relevant bleeding risk. Taking Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
