Description
Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole) is an antithyroid agent. It is typically used to treat hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland). It may also have other uses.

Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole) is typically given into three equal divided doses, every 8 hours. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food. WARNING: Agranulocytosis (severe reduction in the number of white blood cells) is potentially the most serious side effect of therapy with methimazole. Patients should be instructed to report to their physicians any symptoms of agranulocytosis, such as fever or sore throat. This medication can cause liver damage. If you have liver problems, discuss with your doctor how Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole), and whether any special monitoring is needed. In addition to its desired action, Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause edema (water retention), drowsiness, drug fever, headache and vertigo. It may cause skin pigmentation, skin rash, nausea and vomiting, hair loss. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (severe allergy) to methimazole or any component of the formulation. Breastfeeding, history of acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) after administration of methimazole. Taking Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Mar Methimazole (Thiamazole) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
