Description
Actemra (Tocilizumab) is an antirheumatic agent. It is typically used for adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease that affects the joints) that did not respond well enough to methotrexate or another disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (a class of drugs indicated for treating rheumatoid arthritis). It may also have other uses.

Actemra (Tocilizumab)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. For subcutaneous (under the skin) used. Rotate injection sites, avoid injecting into moles, scars, or tender, bruised, red, or hard skin. After proper training, patients may self-inject, or the patient's caregiver may administer tocilizumab to the patient. WARNING: Serious infections have been reported in patients receiving tocilizumab, infection may lead to hospitalization or death. Use with caution in patients at increased risk for gastrointestinal perforation (a hole that forms all the way through the stomach, large bowel, or small intestine). Use with caution in patient with central nervous system problem (brain and nerves). Use with caution in elderly patients. In addition to its desired action, Actemra (Tocilizumab) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause skin rash, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar level), urinary tract infection. It may cause headaches, high blood pressure, nausea, headache. It may cause injection site reactions, constipation, increased serum cholesterol. Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to tocilizumab or any component of the formulation. Taking Actemra (Tocilizumab) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Actemra (Tocilizumab) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
