Description
Mekinist (Trametinib) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used alone or in combination with other medications to treat melanoma (skin cancer) that cannot be treated with surgery or has spread to other parts of the body. It may also have other uses.

Mekinist (Trametinib) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, at the same time each day. WARNING: Using Mekinist with Tafinlar (anticancer agent) may increase your risk of developing new skin cancer. Tell your doctor if you notice new skin symptoms such as redness, warts, sores that will not heal, or a mole that has changed in size or color. Using Mekinist alone or with Tafinlar may increase your risk of bleeding. If you have a history of coughing up blood, brain bleeds, or bleeding from the stomach, discuss with your doctor how Mekinist (Trametinib) may affect your medical condition. In addition to its desired action, Mekinist (Trametinib) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause edema (swelling), skin rash, heart problems, hypertension (high blood pressure). It may cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, blurred vision, hemorrhage (bleeding), fever. It may cause hyperglycemia (high blood sugar level), short of breath, cough. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to trametinib or any component of the formulation. Taking Mekinist (Trametinib) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Mekinist (Trametinib) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
