Description

Venclexta (Venetoclax) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used alone or with other medications for people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). CLL is a blood cancer that causes too many white blood cells to be produced and causes them to live too long. It is also used with other medications to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults who are 75 years or older or who will not be able to tolerate other chemotherapy. AML is a blood cancer that causes too many of several types of blood cells to be produced in the body. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Venclexta (Venetoclax)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually taken once. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor will gradually increase the dose to the full standard dose. The gradual increase in dose helps to reduce the chance of experiencing severe side effects. To further reduce the chance of experiencing these side effects, drink at least 1.75 litres of water (7 glasses) each day. Venetoclax tablets should be swallowed whole with water and taken with a meal. Do not chew, crush, or split the tablets. Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat Seville oranges or starfruit while taking Venclexta (Venetoclax), as they may increase the amount of venetoclax in your blood. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: When it is used with other medications to treat AML, venetoclax has been reported to cause severe episodes of bleeding, which can become life-threatening. If you notice any signs of bleeding, such as frequent nosebleeds, unexplained bruising, or black and tarry stools, notify your doctor as soon as possible. This medication may cause low or no sperm production when taken by men. Venetoclax reduces the number of cells that fight infection in the body (white blood cells). If possible, avoid contact with people with contagious infections. Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney dysfunction. Taking venetoclax may increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Use an effective method of birth control such as condoms during treatment and for at least 30 days after stopping the medication.
In addition to its desired action, Venclexta (Venetoclax) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause constipation, decreased appetite, diarrhea, mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain. It may cause cough, fever, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, or tiredness. It may cause itching, muscle and joint pain, weakness, or weight loss. Contraindication: Hypersensitivity to venetoclax or any component of the formulation. Do not take Venclexta (Venetoclax) with "azole" antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole), antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin or erythromycin), or protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir, lopinavir, ritonavir). Taking Venclexta (Venetoclax) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or becoming pregnant, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with Venclexta (Venetoclax) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Venclexta (Venetoclax)
