Description

Aldactazide (Spironolactone Hydrochlorothiazide) is an diuretic agent. It is typically used to treat high blood pressure and fluid retention (edema) caused by various conditions, including heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver (a late-stage liver disease) and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney disorder). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Aldactazide (Spironolactone Hydrochlorothiazide)'s dosage depends on the condition (in single or divided doses). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer this drug in single or divided doses with or without food.
WARNING: Avoid potassium supplements, salt substitutes and foods containing high levels of potassium (e.g., bananas, prunes, raisins, and orange juice). Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus (a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high). Use with caution in patients with moderate or high cholesterol concentrations. Use with caution in patients with mild renal (kidney) impairment. Use with caution in patients with mild or moderate hepatic (liver) impairment. In addition to its desired action, Aldactazide (Spironolactone Hydrochlorothiazide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause malaise, diarrhea, cramping, nausea, reduced libido (a decreased interest in sexual activity). It may cause headaches, drowsiness, kidneys disorder, decreased appetite. It may cause low blood pressure, fever, difficulty breathing, muscle cramps.
Contraindications: If you are allergic to spironolactone, thiazides, or to any ingredient in the formulation, if you have anuria (decreased urination), if you have Addison’s disease (a disorder that occurs when your body doesn't produce enough of certain hormones), if you have severe impairment of renal (kidney) function, patients with hyperkalemia (high potassium level), patients with hypercalcemia (high calcium level), patients with severe or progressive liver disease, concomitant use with eplerenone (a potassium sparing agent). Taking Aldactazide (Spironolactone Hydrochlorothiazide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Aldactazide (Spironolactone Hydrochlorothiazide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
