Description
Andexxa (Andexanet Alfa) is an agent used to treat bleeding. It is typically used in adults who have a serious bleeding event caused by taking certain blood thinners, such as apixaban or rivaroxaban. Andexxa works by helping to stop the blood thinning effects, allowing the blood to clot properly again. It may also have other uses.

Andexxa (Andexanet Alfa) is usually given as an injection: You will receive 2 doses: a dose of either 400 mg or 800 mg given at a rate of 30 mg/min followed by a continuous dose of 480 mg or 960 mg over 2 hours at a rate of 4 mg/min.. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not take more of this product, or take it more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine by injection or infusion into a vein. WARNING: Treatment with ONDEXXYA has been associated with serious and life-threatening adverse events, including: formation of blood clots in your veins or arteries which could lead to a heart attack or stroke, cardiac arrest (heart suddenly stops pumping blood). In case of a life-threatening or uncontrolled bleeding, ONDEXXYA is used to reverse the blood thinning effects of apixaban and rivaroxaban which may lead to an increased risk of blood clot formation. To reduce this risk, your physician will restart your blood thinner as soon as medically appropriate. In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause blood clotting issues, leading to symptoms like swelling or pain. It may cause fever, chills, or tiredness. Contraindications: Do not use this medication if you have a known allergy (hypersensitivity) to any of its ingredients. Do not use if you are receiving heparin. Taking this medication during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.
