Description
Apo Alendronate Vitamin D3 (Alendronate Cholecalciferol) is an anti-osteoporosis agent. It is typically used for the treatment of osteoporosis (bone disease that occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes too little bone, or both) in postmenopausal females, treatment to increase bone mass in males with osteoporosis. It may also have other uses.

Apo Alendronate Vitamin D3 (Alendronate Cholecalciferol) is typically taken once weekly. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer first thing in the morning and ≥30 minutes before the first food, beverage (except plain water), or other medication(s) of the day. Must be taken with 6 to 8 oz of plain water, do not take with mineral water or with other beverages. Swallow whole, do not chew or suck. Patients should be instructed to stay upright (not to lie down) for ≥30 minutes and until after first food of the day (to reduce swallowing tube irritation). WARNING: Severe (and occasionally debilitating) bone, joint, and/or muscle pain have been reported. Atypical femur fractures (a break in the thigh bone. It runs from the hip to the knee) have been reported In addition to its desired action, Apo Alendronate Vitamin D3 (Alendronate Cholecalciferol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause decreased blood calcium, decreased blood phosphate It may cause abdominal distension (swelling of the abdomen), abdominal pain, acid regurgitation, constipation, diarrhea It may cause headaches It may cause muscle cramps, musculoskeletal pain Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to alendronate, vitamin D derivatives, or any component of the formulation, hypocalcemia (low blood calcium), abnormalities of the esophagus (swallowing tube) which delay esophageal (swallowing tube) emptying, inability to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes Taking Apo Alendronate Vitamin D3 (Alendronate Cholecalciferol) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Apo Alendronate Vitamin D3 (Alendronate Cholecalciferol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
