Description
One Alpha (Alfacalcidol) is a vitamin D analogue. It is typically used to treat low calcium level in the blood and bone disorders caused by parathyroid disease (disorders of the parathyroid glands that produce parathyroid hormone, which plays a key role in the regulation of calcium levels in the blood) and kidney failure. It may also have other uses.

One Alpha (Alfacalcidol) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer capsules with or without food and/or drink. WARNING: Monitor calcium levels closely, patients with chronic renal failure (kidney failure) are at an increased risk for hypercalcemia (high calcium levels). Monitor phosphate level, in cases of progressively or persistently elevated phosphate level, the use of phosphate-lowering agents may be necessary. In addition to its desired action, One Alpha (Alfacalcidol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypertension (elevated blood pressure), headache, hyperthermia (increased body temperature), drowsiness. It may cause hypercalcemia (an excess of calcium in the blood), nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to vitamin D or its analogues and derivatives, or any component of the formulation, hypercalcemia (high blood calcium), hyperphosphatemia (high serum phosphate levels), evidence of vitamin D toxicity (the toxic state of an excess of vitamin D). Taking One Alpha (Alfacalcidol) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with One Alpha (Alfacalcidol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
