Apo Varenicline (Varenicline)

Description

Apo Varenicline (Varenicline) is a smoking cessation aid agent. It is typically used to help people stop smoking. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

The usual starting dose of varenicline is 0.5 mg once daily for the first 3 days, then 0.5 mg twice daily for the next 4 days, then continue on 0.5 mg twice daily or increase to 1 mg twice daily thereafter. (The maximum dose of varenicline is 1 mg twice daily). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer after eating and with a full glass of water.
WARNING: Consuming alcohol while taking varenicline may increase the risk of developing mood disorders or behavioural changes. You may also experience increased intoxicating effects of alcohol if you drink while taking varenicline. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment, dosage adjustment required with severe impairment. There have been reports of seizures by people taking this medication. If you experience seizures while taking this medication, stop the medication immediately and get medical attention.
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches, insomnia, abnormal dreams, irritability, suicidal ideation, depression, nausea, vomiting It may cause cardiac problems, anxiety, agitation, drowsiness It may cause skin rash, flatulence (gas), constipation, bad taste in the mouth, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dry mouth, increased appetite, upper respiratory tract infections Contraindications: Serious hypersensitivity reactions or skin reactions to varenicline or any component of the formulation.
Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.
