Aquacel Ag+ extra (Silver Hydrocolloid)

Description

Aquacel Ag+ extra (Silver Hydrocolloid)s an antimicrobial agent. It is typically used for moderate to highly exuding chronic and acute wounds where there is infection or an increased risk of infection. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Aquacel Ag+ extra (Silver Hydrocolloid) is typically used once (a dressing is not reused) and can remain on the wound for up to 7 days. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of Aquacel Ag+ extra (Silver Hydrocolloid), or more often than prescribed. Cleanse/irrigate wound with sterile normal saline or agency approved wound cleanser, dry peri-wound skin. Apply dry Aquacel Ag+ Extra sheet directly on the wound bed. 

WARNING: should not be used by patients with a known sensitivity to silver. For external use only. 

In addition to its desired action, Aquacel Ag+ extra (Silver Hydrocolloid) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause irritation (redness, inflammation), sensitivity or allergic reaction

Contraindications: Do not use for client with known sensitivity to silver or sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Not to use silver ionic products in combination with oil- based products such as petrolatum or paraffin. Do not use silver products when client is undergoing MRI examination or during radiation therapy (dressing can be replaced after MRI or radiation treatment is completed).

Using Aquacel Ag+ extra (Silver Hydrocolloid) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby.
