Description
Asmanex Twisthaler (Mometasone) is a corticosteroid agent. It is typically used to treat asthma for people 4 years of age and older. It may also have other uses.

Asmanex Twisthaler (Mometasone) is typically used once daily in the evening. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. The mometasone inhaler is breath activated. The amount of powder inhaled with each dose is very small. You may not be able to taste it or feel in going into your lungs. However, the medication will be getting into your lungs if you follow the instructions on how to use the inhaler. To reduce the risk of thrush (yeast) infection in the mouth, rinse and gargle with water after inhaling the medication. WARNING: This medication is not for use as a "reliever" medication. If you start to have an asthma attack, be sure to use your "reliever" medication for rapid relief of your asthma symptoms. Prolonged use of mometasone or other inhaled corticosteroids may cause glaucoma (a group of eye diseases that can cause vision loss and blindness by damaging a nerve in the back of your eye called the optic nerve) with possible damage to the optic nerves or it may produce cataracts (a condition in which the lens of the eye becomes cloudy. Symptoms include blurred, cloudy, or double vision, sensitivity to light, and difficulty seeing at night). Mometasone may hide some signs of infection, and new infections may appear while mometasone is being used. In addition to its desired action, Asmanex Twisthaler (Mometasone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause burning or painful feeling of the tongue, constipation, decreased appetite It may cause diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth or throat It may cause ear pain, fatigue Contraindications: Do not use it if you are allergic to mometasone or any ingredients of the medication, are allergic to milk or lactose, are having an asthma attack (the airways become swollen and inflamed), have active or inactive lung tuberculosis (lung infection), have an untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral lung infection, have herpes simplex infection of the eye (viral infection), have status asthmaticus (severe, unresponsive asthma). Taking Asmanex Twisthaler (Mometasone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Asmanex Twisthaler (Mometasone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Asmanex Twisthaler (Mometasone)
