Description
Aventyl (Nortriptyline) is an antidepressant. It is typically used for the treatment of symptoms of unipolar major depression. It may also have other uses.

Aventyl (Nortriptyline) is usually given once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food or without food at bedtime. WARNING: Antidepressants increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults (18 to 24 years of age) with major depressive disorder and other psychiatric or mental disorders. May impair physical or mental abilities, patients must be cautioned about performing tasks that require mental alertness (e.g., operating machinery or driving). Use with caution in patients with kidney, liver and brain disorders. Use with caution in patients with high blood sugar levels. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Aventyl (Nortriptyline) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness and fatigue, stomach cramps, weight loss, constipation and diarrhea, It may cause agitation, anxiety, confusion, disorientation, dizziness, drowsiness, drug fever, and difficulty sleeping. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to nortriptyline and similar medications, or any component of the formulation, use of other antidepressant in the past 14 days. Taking Aventyl (Nortriptyline) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Aventyl (Nortriptyline) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
