Description

Carboplatin (Carboplatin) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used to treat ovarian cancer (a type of cancer that begins in the ovaries -the paired organs in the female reproductive system that produce ova and release certain hormones, such as estrogen). It may also have other uses.

Carboplatin (Carboplatin)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Carboplatin (Carboplatin) to you in a hospital or clinical setting.
WARNING: Carboplatin can cause severe blood disorders that can result in infection and bleeding problems. Blood counts as well as kidneys and liver function tests must be done regularly and the drug should be discontinued if abnormal depression of the bone marrow (reduction of platelets (helps in blood clotting), white blood cells (provides immunity) and red blood cells (carries oxygen)) or if abnormal kidneys or liver function is seen. In addition to its desired action, Carboplatin (Carboplatin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause pain, vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea, ear infection, kidney and liver problems.
It may cause hyponatremia (deficiency of sodium in the blood), hypomagnesemia (deficiency of magnesium in the blood), hypocalcemia (deficiency of calcium in the bloodstream), hypokalemia (deficiency of potassium in the bloodstream).
It may cause hypersensitivity reaction, bone marrow depression (reduction of platelets (helps in blood clotting), white blood cells (provides immunity) and red blood cells (carries oxygen)).
Contraindications: History of severe allergic reaction to carboplatin, or any component of the formulation, should not be used in patients with severe bone marrow depression or significant bleeding.
Taking Carboplatin (Carboplatin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
