Description

Ceftin (Cefuroxime) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as infections of the airway tubes leading to the lungs, gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease), lyme disease (an infection that may develop after a person is bitten by a tick), and infections of the skin, ears, sinuses, throat. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Ceftin (Cefuroxime) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food. Shake well before use.
WARNING: prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection (additional infection). Use with caution in patients with a history of colitis (inflammation of the inner lining of the colon). Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment, modify dosage in severe impairment. In addition to its desired action, Ceftin (Cefuroxime) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, heart problems, nausea and vomiting, liver disease It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, stomach pain
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, any component of the formulation, or other similar agents. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
