Description
Zovirax (Acyclovir) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used to manage the initial episodes of genital herpes simplex infections (viral infections) and reduces the pain and severity of herpes lesions or sores. It may also have other uses.

Zovirax (Acyclovir) is typically used four to six times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Apply as early as possible following the onset of prodromal symptoms or when lesions appear. Not for use in the eye. Apply sufficient amount to adequately cover all lesions. Apply using a finger cot or rubber glove to avoid transmission to other parts of the body or to other persons. WARNING: For cutaneous (skin) use only, do not use in the eye. Physical contact should be avoided when lesions are present, transmission may also occur in the absence of symptoms. In addition to its desired action, Zovirax (Acyclovir) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause local pain, dry, cracked, or peeling lips. It may cause dryness or flaking of treated skin. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to acyclovir, valacyclovir, or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Zovirax (Acyclovir) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
