Clavulin BID (Amoxicillin Clavulanic Acid twice daily)

Description

Clavulin BID (Amoxicillin Clavulanic Acid twice daily) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat infections caused by certain bacteria responsible for infections of the sinuses (a hollow space in the nose), ears, lungs, skin, and bladder. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

The dosage is based on body weight and on the infection being treated. It is typically taken every 12 hours. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for your child. It should be taken with food. Shake the suspension well before use. An accurate measuring device (like a measuring spoon) should be used to deliver the dose. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Long-term use may cause it not to work anymore in the future (resistance), more bacteria and fungi to grow (superinfection), and bacteria that do not die (resistance). This medication only treats bacterial infections, not viral infections such as the common cold. In the case of kidney disease, the dose should be modified accordingly.

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting.
It may cause fungal infections of the skin, nails, mouth, vagina, or urinary tract.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Amoxicillin or any component of the formulation. Do not use this product if you are allergic to penicillin or antibiotics. Do not use this product if you have a history of liver disease, jaundice (yellow discoloration of skin and/or eyes), or severe kidney disease.

A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.
