Description

Crinone (Progesterone) is a hormonal agent. It is typically used as part of an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) plan. They help to prepare the uterus lining so that a fertilized egg can be implanted (attached to the uterus) and to maintain a pregnancy once a fertilized egg has been implanted. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Crinone (Progesterone) is typically given as 90 mg (one applicator) inserted into the vagina once or twice daily, starting the day of embryo transfer. If pregnancy occurs, treatment may be continued for up to 12 weeks. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. To insert progesterone vaginal gel, hold the applicator by the thick end and shake down to ensure the contents are at the thin end. Twist off the tab and gently insert the thin end of the applicator into the vagina while you are in a sitting position or when lying on your back with your knees bent. Press the thick end of the applicator firmly to deposit the gel. Remove and discard the applicator. Applicators are intended for a single use only.
WARNING: Patients must be cautioned about performing tasks that require mental alertness (e.g., operating machinery, driving). Use with caution in patients with a history of depression. Use caution in patients with diabetes. Do not use in liver impairment or disease. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment.
In addition to its desired action, Crinone (Progesterone) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause abdominal pain, constipation, muscle cramps, nausea
It may cause overgrowth of breast tissue, breast pain, depression, drowsiness, headache, nervousness It may cause decreased libido, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, vaginal discharge, dizziness, pain Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to progesterone or any component of the formulation, including palm oil, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, liver impairment or disease, known or suspected malignancy (cancer) of the breast or genital organs, missed abortion, active thromboembolic (formation in a blood vessel of a clot) disorders, or a history of hormone-associated thromboembolic (formation in a blood vessel of a clot) disorders.
Taking Crinone (Progesterone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. It can only be indicated during the first trimester of pregnancy for use as part of an assisted reproduction (ART) regimen. There is yet limited and inconclusive data on the risk of congenital anomalies. Pregnant women should not use this product. A treatment with Crinone (Progesterone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Crinone (Progesterone)
