Description

Entocort (Budesonide) is a corticosteroid. It is typically used to treat mild-to-moderate Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory disease of the bowel. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Entocort (Budesonide) is typically taken once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It can be taken with or without food. The capsules should be swallowed whole with water and not chewed, broken, or crushed before being swallowed. However, if you are unable to swallow capsule, you may open it and sprinkle the granules onto 1 tablespoonful of applesauce (applesauce should be soft enough to swallow without chewing and should not be hot), mix granules with applesauce and consume within 30 minutes of mixing, do not save the mixture for later use. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. 
 
WARNING: Corticosteroids such as budesonide may cause an increase in blood sugar levels, use with caution in patients with diabetes. When taken by mouth, Entocort (Budesonide) may mask some signs of infection and put people at increased risk for new infections. Long-term use of corticosteroids may increase the risk of bone loss and osteoporosis (weakened bones). 
 
In addition to its desired action, Entocort (Budesonide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause indigestion, increased thirst, weight gain, and headache. 
It may cause blurred vision, menstrual problems, tremor or shaking, and trouble sleeping. 
It may cause unusual increase in hair growth, wounds that will not heal, and swelling of feet or lower legs. 
It may cause muscle cramps, muscle weakness, and palpitations (fast or pounding heartbeat). 
 
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to budesonide or to any of the ingredients of the medication. Do not use in case of bacterial, fungal, viral infection, or active tuberculosis (bacterial infection). 
 
Taking Entocort (Budesonide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
 
A treatment with Entocort (Budesonide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Entocort (Budesonide)
