HERCEPTIN (trastuzumab) can result in the development of cardiotoxicity (damage to the heart muscle), use with extreme caution in patients with pre-existing heart disease or dysfunction. There is a risk of medication errors between HERCEPTIN (trastuzumab) and KADCYLA (trastuzumab emtansine). In order to minimize this risk, check the vial labels to ensure that the drug being prepared and administered is HERCEPTIN (trastuzumab) and not KADCYLA (trastuzumab emtansine).
In addition to its desired action, Herceptin Sc (Trastuzumab) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause heart problems, skin rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea.
It may cause infection, dizziness, headache, sleeping disorder. It may cause cough, fever, back pain.
Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to trastuzumab, Chinese hamster ovary cell proteins, or any component of the formulation. Taking Herceptin Sc (Trastuzumab) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method.
