Description

Instillagel (Chlorhexidine Lidocaine) is a topical anesthetic (drug that causes temporary loss of bodily sensations) and antiseptic (drug that inhibits the growth and development of microorganisms) agent. It is typically used for adults and children over 2 years old when putting a tube or instrument into your urethra (the tube through which urine leaves the body). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Instillagel (Chlorhexidine Lidocaine)'s dosage depends on condition/gender (usual range: 6 mL - 39 mL). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Instillagel (Chlorhexidine Lidocaine) to you in a hospital or clinical setting.
WARNING: Instillagel is for topical use only. Do not use parenterally (by injection). You may feel drowsy after you have been given Instillagel. In this case, do not drive or use machinery. Use with caution in patients with heart or liver problems. Use with caution in patients with epilepsy (a disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal).
In addition to its desired action, Instillagel (Chlorhexidine Lidocaine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause hypersensitivity reaction, local discomfort. It may cause low blood pressure, rash, swelling, difficulty breathing. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type, chlorhexidine, or any component of the formulation.
Taking Instillagel (Chlorhexidine Lidocaine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
