Description

ISDN (Isosorbide Dinitrate) is an antianginal agent. It is typically used for the treatment (immediate-release only) and prevention of angina pectoris (a condition marked by severe pain in the chest, often also spreading to the shoulders, arms, and neck, owing to an inadequate blood supply to the heart) caused by coronary artery disease. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

ISDN (Isosorbide Dinitrate) is typically used four times per day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. For twice daily dosing, consider administering at 8 AM and 1 PM. For 3 times daily dosing, consider 8 AM, 1 PM, and 6 PM. Take this medicine on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after food. Do not take with food.

WARNING: Severe hypotension (low blood pressure) can occur, paradoxical bradycardia (slow heart rate) and increased angina pectoris (chest pain) can accompany hypotension. Orthostatic hypotension can also occur, ethanol can accentuate this. Use with caution in volume depletion and hypotension, and use with extreme caution with inferior wall MI (heart attack) and suspected right ventricular infarctions (heart problem). Severe hypotension, particularly with upright posture, may occur with even small doses. It may precipitate or aggravate increased intracranial (in the brain) pressure and subsequently may worsen clinical outcomes in patients with neurological injury (brain, nerves and spinal cord)

In addition to its desired action, ISDN (Isosorbide Dinitrate) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause hypotension (low blood pressure), rebound hypertension (high blood pressure), syncope (fainting) and unstable angina pectoris (chest pain)
It may cause headache

Contraindications:: Hypersensitivity to isosorbide dinitrate or any component of the formulation, concurrent use with phosphodiesterase inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, or avanafil), concurrent use with riociguat, cardiogenic shock or risk of cardiogenic shock developing (cardiac problems)

Taking ISDN (Isosorbide Dinitrate) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with ISDN (Isosorbide Dinitrate) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.ISDN (Isosorbide Dinitrate)
