Description
Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma (abnormal plasma cells (a type of blood cells) that build up in the bone marrow and form tumors in many bones of the body). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) is typically given as 28-day treatment cycles. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer over 10 or 30 minutes depending on the carfilzomib dose regimen. Do not administer as an IV push or bolus. Hydrate with oral fluids at least 48 hours prior to initiating cycle 1, as well as with 250 to 500 mL normal saline (or other appropriate IV fluid) prior to and after (if needed) each dose in cycle 1, continue oral and/or IV hydration in subsequent cycles (if necessary). Flush line immediately before and after carfilzomib with normal saline or Dextrose 5% in water. Do not administer with other medications. WARNING: When administering as monotherapy, premedicate with dexamethasone when infusing carfilzomib. Premedicate 30 minutes to 4 hours prior to all carfilzomib doses in cycle 1, and as needed with future cycles to reduce the incidence and severity of infusion reaction. In addition to its desired action, Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause fatigue, low blood cell count and blood platelet (involved in clotting) levels, shortness of breath It may cause diarrhea, constipation, nausea, fever, swelling of the extremities, weakness It may cause upper respiratory tract infections (coughing, runny nose, sneezing and throat pain), runny or stuffy nose, low blood potassium, low blood calcium It may cause high blood sugar, muscle spasms, numbness and tingling in the extremities It may cause insomnia, cough, rash, high blood pressure Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Carfilzomib or any component of the formulation Taking Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
