Description
Leukeran (Chlorambucil) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used for the management of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes which are a type of white blood cell), Hodgkin lymphoma (cancer of the immune system that is marked by the presence of a type of cell called the Reed-Sternberg cell) and non-Hodgkin lymphomas (large group of cancers of lymphocytes which are white blood cells). It may also have other uses.

Leukeran (Chlorambucil)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once every two weeks. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without food. WARNING: Chlorambucil may cause severe bone marrow suppression (when fewer blood cells are made in the marrow), Chlorambucil is probably mutagenic (a change in the DNA of a cell) and teratogenic (disturb the development of an embryo or fetus), in humans. Chlorambucil produces human infertility. Chlorambucil is a human carcinogen, dosage reductions should be considered in patients with liver impairment. Avoid administration of live vaccines to patient having low immunity. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Leukeran (Chlorambucil) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause allergic skin reaction, skin rash and urticaria (red, itchy). It may cause amenorrhea (the absence of menstruation or period), infertility and liver toxicity. It may cause fever and water retention. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to chlorambucil or any component of the formulation, use within 4 weeks of a full course of radiation or chemotherapy. Taking Leukeran (Chlorambucil) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Leukeran (Chlorambucil) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
