M Donepezil (Donepezil)

Description

M Donepezil (Donepezil) is an anti-Alzheimer’s agent. It is typically used to treat mild to severe forms of Alzheimer’s disease (a neurological disorder that causes dementia, a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills). It may also have other uses.

"This medication is typically given once a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Donepezil can be taken with or without food, at the same time everyday. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Donepezil may cause serious muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis). Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer disease (a condition in which painful sores or ulcers develop in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine), asthma (a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus) and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs), seizure disorders, or obstruction of the urinary tract. Donepezil may cause withdrawal symptoms upon treatment discontinuation, consisting of rapidly changing mood, crying easily, agitation, trouble sleeping, intense hallucinations, and difficulty concentrating.

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or weight loss.
It may cause trouble sleeping, unusual bleeding or bruising, or tiredness.
It may cause muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
It may cause mood or mental changes, or an abnormal heart rhythm (QT prolongation).

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Donepezil, piperidine derivatives (e.g., rifabutin, Methylphenidate, Bupivacaine, paroxetine), or any component of the formulation.

Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments."
