heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver (a late-stage liver disease) and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney disorder). It is also used to treat hyperaldosteronism (when the body produces too much aldosterone, a naturally occurring hormone), and low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalemia). It may also have other uses.
