Description
Mylan Divalproex (Valproic Acid) is an anticonvulsant agent. It is typically used to manage and control certain types of seizures ( a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain). It may also have other uses.

Mylan Divalproex (Valproic Acid)'s dosage depends on the condition and body weight ( The maximum recommended dose is 60 mg per kg of body weight per day). Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. The tablets should be swallowed whole and can be taken with or without food.Valproic acid may be taken with food or on an empty stomach, however taking Mylan Divalproex (Valproic Acid) with food may help to reduce stomach upset. WARNING: Liver failure has occurred infrequently for people taking valproic acid, usually during the first 6 months of treatment. Liver function tests should take place before starting treatment with valproic acid. Cases of life-threatening pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) have been reported for both children and adults. This can occur at any time during the use of valproic acid. If you experience signs of pancreatitis such as abdominal pain on the upper left side, back pain, loss of appetite, nausea, fever, chills, rapid heartbeat, or swollen abdomen contact your doctor immediately. People over the age of 65 may be more at risk of developing side effects from Mylan Divalproex (Valproic Acid) and may require lower doses. In addition to its desired action, Mylan Divalproex (Valproic Acid) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause tremors (involuntary muscle contraction leading to shaking movements). It may cause diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, hair loss, blurred/double vision. It may cause change in menstrual periods, ringing in the ears, unsteadiness, weight changes. Contraindications: Valproic acid is contraindicated in patients with hepatic disorders, significant hepatic impairment, hypersensitivity to components of the drug and class of drug, certain metabolic disorders (urea cycle disorders), porphyria ( a group of disorders that result from a buildup of natural chemicals that produce porphyrin in your body), pregnancy unless there is no suitable alternative treatment. Taking Mylan Divalproex (Valproic Acid) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
