Description
Norvir (Ritonavir) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used to treat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus infection which is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system), the virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It may also have other uses.

Norvir (Ritonavir) is typically used one to two times per day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food to improve tolerability. Swallow tablets whole, do not chew, break, or crush. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with heart disease, in patients with hemophilia A or B (rare bleeding disorders), increased bleeding events may happen. Use is not recommended in patients with severe liver impairment. Use with caution in patients with increased triglycerides (type of fat in the blood). In addition to its desired action, Norvir (Ritonavir) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach pain, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, tiredness It may cause weakness, changes in taste, tingling/numbness of hands/feet/mouth area, mood changes It may cause changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and waist) It may cause flushing, skin rash, feeling hot, arthralgia (pain in one or more joints), back pain, cough Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ritonavir or any component of the formulation, coadministration with drugs like alfuzosin, amiodarone, apalutamide, cisapride, colchicine, dronedarone, ergot derivatives [eg, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, methylergonovine], flecainide, lomitapide, lovastatin, lurasidone, midazolam [oral], pimozide, propafenone, quinidine, ranolazine, simvastatin, St John's wort, triazolam, voriconazole [when ritonavir dose is ≥800 mg/day]), and some similar agents. Taking Norvir (Ritonavir) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Norvir (Ritonavir) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Norvir (Ritonavir) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
