Description

NovoRapid Penfill (Insulin Aspart) is a rapid-acting insulin analog. It is typically used to reduce the high blood sugar level by adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and above with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is a disease where your body doesn’t produce enough insulin to control the level of your blood sugar. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

NovoRapid Penfill (Insulin Aspart)'s dosage depends on the condition (usual range: 0.4 units/kg/day - 1 units/kg/day). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your required dose of insulin depends on how much natural insulin your pancreas is producing and how well your body is able to use the insulin. It is only injected subcutaneously (under the skin), not intravenously (into the vein) or intramuscularly (into the muscle). NovoRapid is generally taken immediately before a meal. Eat a meal or snack within 10 minutes of the injection to avoid low blood sugar. When necessary, NovoRapid can be given soon after a meal. Insulin aspart should be used along with an intermediate or long-acting insulin. With each injection, change the injection site within the particular area of skin that you used. This may reduce the risk of developing lumps or skin pitting. The best places to give yourself an injection are: the front of your waist (abdomen), the upper arm or the front of your thighs. The insulin will work more quickly if injected into the front of your waist. You should always measure your blood sugar regularly. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may result from changes in meal pattern (e.g., type of foods eaten, timing of meals), changes in the level of physical activity, increased work or exercise without eating, or changes to coadministered medications. Any change of insulin regimen should be made cautiously and only under medical supervision. Do not use NovoRapid Penfill (Insulin Aspart) if your notice anything unusual about its appearance, such as cloudiness, discoloration, or clumping.

In addition to its desired action, NovoRapid Penfill (Insulin Aspart) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause redness, itching, or swelling at the site of the injection.
It may cause swelling around ankles and other joints.
It may cause signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): headache, rapid heartbeat, temporary changes in vision, drowsiness, feeling confused and difficulty in concentrating.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any component of the formulation. Do not use during episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with NovoRapid Penfill (Insulin Aspart) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.NovoRapid Penfill (Insulin Aspart)
