Description
Nplate (Romiplostim) is a thrombopoietic agent, which stimulates the bone marrow (the part of the bone that makes blood cells) to produce more platelets, which helps to prevent bleeding and bruising. It is typically used to treat low platelet levels in people with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a disease where the immune system attacks the platelet cells in the blood, destroying them. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Nplate (Romiplostim) is typically given once a week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Romiplostim is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous). It is typically given to you by your physician. WARNING: This medication increases the amount of platelets in your blood to help prevent bleeding. This can also put you at risk of having an unwanted blood clot. Using romiplostim for a long period of time may cause changes in your bone marrow, which can lead your body to make abnormal blood cells or fewer blood cells. In addition to its desired action, Nplate (Romiplostim) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, gas, heartburn, or indigestion. It may cause dizziness, fatigue, headache, joint pain, or muscle pain or weakness. It may cause pain in the hands and feet, tingling or numbness of the hands or feet, or shoulder pain. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to romiplostim or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of known history of sensitivity or allergy to any E. Coli (bacteria)-derived product. Taking Nplate (Romiplostim) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Nplate (Romiplostim) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Nplate (Romiplostim) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Nplate (Romiplostim)
