Additional information

Opus K 20 (Potassium 20 mEq-Sustained release) is typically taken twice or four times a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It should be taken with meals and a full glass of water or other liquids to minimize the risk of stomach irritation. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Use with caution in patients with liver cirrhosis (a late-stage liver disease in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue and the liver is permanently damaged). Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Patients with cardiovascular disease may be more susceptible to life-threatening cardiac effects associated with hyperkalemia (high blood potassium levels) and hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels).

It may cause nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

It may cause edema (swelling), or cardiac problems.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation, concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics (a type of water pill that retains potassium in the body) is contraindicated. While this combination should generally be avoided, in select patients under close medical supervision, combined use of potassium supplements and potassium-sparing diuretics may be considered.

Taking Opus K 20 (Potassium 20 mEq-Sustained release) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
