Description
Pen VK (Penicillin V Potassium) is a penicillin antibiotic. It is typically used to treat bacterial infections of the throat, respiratory tract, and skin. It may also have other uses.

Pen VK (Penicillin V Potassium)'s dosage depends on the condition (usual range: 1 g - 4 g). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It should be taken on an empty stomach, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Long-term use of Pen VK may cause it not to work anymore in the future (resistance), more bacteria and fungi to grow (superinfection), and bacteria that do not die (resistance). This medication only treats bacterial infections, not viral infections such as the common cold. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment or seizure disorders. In addition to its desired action, Pen VK (Penicillin V Potassium) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, stomach pain, or a black hairy tongue (melanoglossia). It may cause bloating, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or a heartburn. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to penicillin, other antibiotics of the same class, or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
