Description

Perjeta (Pertuzumab) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used in combination with other medications to treat HER2-positive breast cancer, particularly in patients who are newly diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer or those with advanced or metastatic disease. It works by blocking a protein called HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2), which can promote the growth of cancer cells. It may also have other uses.

Perjeta (Pertuzumab) is usually given once every 3 weeks. Your doctor or pharmacist may suggest a specific schedule that is appropriate for your condition. Important: Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional. Do not take more of this medication or receive it more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist or doctor. PERJETA will be given to you by your healthcare provider in a hospital or clinic.

WARNING: PERJETA may cause heart problems, including those without symptoms (such as reduced heart function) and those with symptoms (such as congestive heart failure). Your health care provider may run tests to monitor your heart function before and during treatment with PERJETA. Exposure to PERJETA can result in embryo-fetal death and birth defects. Your health care provider will advise you of these risks and the need for effective contraception while you are taking PERJETA in combination with trastuzumab and 7 months after the last dose of treatment because of the length of time PERJETA and trastuzumab can remain in the body.
PERJETA has been associated with severe reactions.

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:

It may cause diarrhea, hair loss, low levels of white blood cells with or without fever
It may cause nausea, feeling tired, rash, and damage to the nerves (numbness, tingling)

Contraindications: Do not use this medication if you have a known allergy (hypersensitivity) to any of its ingredients.

Taking this medication during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.
