Description
Pradaxa (Dabigatran) is a blood thinner. It is typically used for the prevention of blood clots. It may also be used for deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot in a deep vein, usually in the lower leg, thigh, or pelvis) or for pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs). It may also have other uses.

Pradaxa (Dabigatran) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer capsules with a full glass of water without regard to meals, however, if stomach upset occurs, consider administration with meals. Do not break, chew, or open capsules, as this will lead to 75% increase in absorption and potentially serious adverse reactions. WARNING: Use is not recommended in patients with heart disease, evaluate renal (kidney) function prior to and during therapy, particularly if used by patients with any degree of pre-existing renal (kidney) impairment or in any condition that may result in a decline in renal (kidney) function In addition to its desired action, Pradaxa (Dabigatran) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause bruising and minor bleeding (such as nosebleeds), nausea, abdominal or stomach pain, stomach upset, indigestion It may cause heartburn, diarrhea, skin rash It may cause stomach and intestine hemorrhage (bleeding) Contraindications: Serious hypersensitivity to dabigatran or any component of the formulation, active pathological bleeding, patients with mechanical prosthetic heart valve (s), which is/are a substitute valve used to replace a diseased valve (s). Taking Pradaxa (Dabigatran) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Pradaxa (Dabigatran) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
