Description

Prolopa (Levodopa Benserazide) is an antiparkinsonian agent. It is typically used for the treatment of Parkinson’s diseases (a disease that is manifested by muscle stiffness and tremor). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Prolopa (Levodopa Benserazide)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given twice to four or six divided doses daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or immediately after a low protein meal.
 
WARNING: Patients have reported falling asleep while engaging in activities of daily living including the driving of a car, in some cases, these events have occurred without significant warning signs. Use with caution in patients receiving medications to treat mental health issues. Better not to consume alcohol while on treatment. Use with caution in the elderly. Use with caution in patient suffering from kidney and liver diseases. Use is contraindicated in patients <25 years of age. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning.

In addition to its desired action, Prolopa (Levodopa Benserazide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), chest pain, edema (water retention), hypertension (high blood pressure) and hypotension (low blood pressure).
It may cause agitation, anxiety, depression and malaise.
It may cause constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, hand tremor and low back pain.
It may discoloration of urine, libido (sexual drive) increased, rash and alopecia (hair loss).

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (severe allergy) to benserazide, levodopa, or any component of the formulation, use with or within 14 days or some antidepressant medications. Evidence of severe heart disease, hormonal diseases and severe kidney, liver lungs and blood diseases. It is contraindicated to use it also in patient suffering from high pressure in the eyes and patient having mental illnesses. Patients <25 years of age should never use it, pregnancy or use in women of childbearing potential without adequate contraception is contraindicated.

Taking Prolopa (Levodopa Benserazide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.
