Description
Vasotec (Enalapril) is an antihypertensive agent. It is typically used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart failure. It may also have other uses.

Vasotec (Enalapril)'s dosage depends on the condition (usual range: 2.5 mg - 40 mg). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to meals. WARNING: Hyperkalemia (high blood potassium) may occur, risk factors include renal (kidney) dysfunction, diabetes mellitus, concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, amiloride), potassium supplements, and/or potassium-containing salts. Use cautiously, if at all, with these agents and monitor potassium closely. In addition to its desired action, Vasotec (Enalapril) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal pain, cough (dry, persistent) It may cause diarrhea, fatigue, headache It may cause loss of appetite, nausea It may cause rash, sore throat, vomiting Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Enalapril or any component of the formulation, angioedema (the rapid swelling of the area beneath the skin) related to previous treatment with an ACE inhibitor (similar agents), idiopathic (unknown cause) or hereditary angioedema, concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes mellitus, coadministration with or within 36 hours of switching to or from a neprilysin inhibitor (e.g., sacubitril). Taking Vasotec (Enalapril) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Vasotec (Enalapril) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
