Description

Vivaxim (Typhoid Fever Hepatitis A Vaccine) typically used to prevent hepatitis A infections and typhoid fever. This vaccine may be given to persons 16 years of age and older. Typhoid fever is an potentially fatal infectious disease spread through food and drink that contain the bacteria (called Salmonella enterica, subtype typhi) that cause the illness. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that is spread from person to person through drinking water or eating food with the hepatitis A virus (HAV) in it.

Additional information

Vivaxim (Typhoid Fever Hepatitis A Vaccine) is typically administered as one dose is injected into a muscle, preferably in the outer upper arm. The vaccine should be given at least 2 weeks before arriving in the area with risk of exposure to hepatitis A and typhoid. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. A repeat ("booster") dose for the hepatitis A vaccine is recommended 6 months to 3 years later. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. 
 
WARNING: Like all vaccines,  may not fully protect 100% of those who get it. It may not be as effective for people with a weakened immune system. This vaccine should not be given to anyone who has an active infection or an illness associated with fever, unless the doctor decides that the benefits outweigh the risks. Vaccination may be considered only after seizure treatment has been established and the condition is stabilized. 
 
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting.
It may cause dizziness, headache, muscle ache, joint ache, and tiredness.
It may cause injection site pain, redness, and swelling.
 
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the vaccine or to any of the ingredients. Do not use in case of acute illness, including those with fever.
 
Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
