Description
Xultophy (Insulin Degludec Liraglutide) is an antidiabetic agent. It is typically used to improve blood sugar levels by adults with type 2 diabetes (a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high). It may also have other uses.

Xultophy (Insulin Degludec Liraglutide) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. For subcutaneous use only (under the skin). Inject into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites for each dose, do not use the same site for each injection. Administer at the same time each day with or without food. WARNING: Severe, life-threatening, generalized allergy, including anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), angioedema (swelling underneath the skin), bronchospasm (constriction of the air passages of the lung) and hypotension (low blood pressure) can occur. If a hypersensitivity reaction occurs, discontinue and treat per standard of care. This drug may cause severe hypokalemia (low potassium level). Monitor potassium levels in patients at risk for hypokalemia and treat if indicated. May cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), if pancreatitis is suspected, discontinue this drug and do not restart if confirmed. Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. In addition to its desired action, Xultophy (Insulin Degludec Liraglutide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level), diarrhea, nausea, headache. It may cause upper respiratory tract infections, increased heart rate, hypokalemia (a deficiency of potassium in the blood), weight gain. Contraindications: If you are allergic to insulin degludec, liraglutide, or any ingredients of the medication, if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid (gland in the neck) cancer, if you are experiencing low blood sugar (episodes of low blood sugar level). Taking Xultophy (Insulin Degludec Liraglutide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Xultophy (Insulin Degludec Liraglutide) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Xultophy (Insulin Degludec Liraglutide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
