Description
Yasmin 21 (Ethinyl Estradiol Drospirenone) is a combination birth control pill (oral contraceptive) that contains a progestin (drospirenone) and estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). It is typically used to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to treat moderate acne for women over 16 years of age who also want birth control and have started menstruating. It may also have other uses.

Yasmin 21 (Ethinyl Estradiol Drospirenone) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Dose should be taken at the same time each day, preferably either after the evening meal or at bedtime. Take 1 tablet daily for 21 days. Take no tablets for 7 days, and then begin the next pack. Use a second method of birth control (e.g., latex condoms and spermicidal foam or gel) for the first 7 days of the first cycle of pill use to ensure prevention of pregnancy. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with risk factors for heart disease (e.g., high blood pressure, older age, diabetes, patients who smoke). Use with caution in patients with depression, discontinue if serious depression recurs. In addition to its desired action, Yasmin 21 (Ethinyl Estradiol Drospirenone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, changes in your menstrual periods, vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) It may cause missed/irregular periods, nausea, vomiting It may cause bloating, stomach cramps, breast pain/tenderness/swelling, nipple discharge, fatigue It may cause irritability, decreased sex drive (libido), changes in weight or appetite, mood changes It may cause freckles or darkening of facial skin, increased hair growth, loss of scalp hair It may cause problems with contact lenses, swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention), vaginal itching or discharge. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the drug or any component of the formulation. Adrenal insufficiency (the adrenal glands, found on top of kidneys, don't make enough of the hormone cortisol), breast cancer or other hormone -sensitive cancer (current or a history of), liver tumors or disease, pregnancy, renal (kidney) impairment, undiagnosed abnormal uterine (the womb) bleeding, use of hepatitis C (liver infection) drug combinations containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir with or without dasabuvir. Use is also contraindicated in patients at high risk of arterial or venous thrombotic diseases (clots in the veins and arteries) for example, patients with: coronary artery disease (chest pain or discomfort and shortness of breath), diabetes mellitus with vascular disease (blood vessels disease), uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), patients >35 years of age who smoke. Taking Yasmin 21 (Ethinyl Estradiol Drospirenone) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Yasmin 21 (Ethinyl Estradiol Drospirenone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
