Description

Zeldox (Ziprasidone) is an antipsychotic agent. It is typically used to control the symptoms of schizophrenia (a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally) and the manic phase (unreasonable euphoria, very intense moods, hyperactivity) of bipolar disorder (a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Zeldox (Ziprasidone) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. Do not open, crush, or chew capsules. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. The capsules should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Take Zeldox (Ziprasidone) with food at the same time every day.

WARNING: People with mental illness may experience feelings of wanting to hurt themselves or others. This medication can cause abnormal heart rhythms including QT prolongation (when the heart's electrical system takes longer than normal to recharge between beats). Ziprasidone may increase the risk of blood clots, especially in the lower leg. This medication may cause high blood sugar levels, use with caution in patients with diabetes. Severe reactions (serotonin syndrome) are possible when Ziprasidone is combined with other medications that act on serotonin to treat depression (such as fluoxetine, sertraline.). These combinations must be avoided. Symptoms of a reaction may include muscle rigidity and spasms, difficulty moving, and changes in mental state including delirium and agitation. As with other antipsychotics, ziprasidone can lower the number of infection-fighting white blood cells in your blood. This can increase your risk of infections.

In addition to its desired action, Zeldox (Ziprasidone) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause constipation, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, or fatigue.
It may cause flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, sore throat, chills), leakage of fluid or milk from breasts (women), or menstrual changes.
It may cause nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, or weight gain.
It may cause sexual difficulties.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ziprasidone or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of history of (or current) QT prolongation, congenital long QT syndrome, recent myocardial infarction (heart attack), decompensated heart failure (failure of the heart to pump enough blood), concurrent use of other QTc-prolonging agents.

Taking Zeldox (Ziprasidone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Zeldox (Ziprasidone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Zeldox (Ziprasidone)
