Description
Zocor (Simvastatin) is an anticholesterol agent. It is typically used for the treatment of high cholesterol levels in the blood. It may also have other uses.

Zocor (Simvastatin) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administered without regard to meals. Administer in the evening for maximal efficacy. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with advanced age, these patients are predisposed to myopathy (any disease that affects the muscles that control voluntary movement in the body) In addition to its desired action, Zocor (Simvastatin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause atrial fibrillation (heart rhythm problems), edema (swelling) It may cause eczema (skin disease) It may cause abdominal pain, constipation, nausea It may cause increased serum transaminases (liver damage) Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to simvastatin or any component of the formulation, active liver disease, unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases (liver damage), concomitant use of certain medications (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, posaconazole, voriconazole, boceprevir and telaprevir, telithromycin, cobicistat-containing products), cyclosporine, danazol, and gemfibrozil, pregnancy or women who may become pregnant, breastfeeding Taking Zocor (Simvastatin) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Zocor (Simvastatin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
