Description
Praluent (Alirocumab) is a cholesterol lowering agent. It is typically used with diet, alone or together with other cholesterol-lowering medicines by adults with high blood cholesterol levels called primary hyperlipidemia. It is also used by adults with cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of heart attack (the death of heart muscle due to the loss of blood supply), stroke (the sudden death of brain cells due to lack of oxygen), and certain types of chest pain conditions requiring hospitalization. It may also have other uses.

Praluent (Alirocumab) is typically used once every two weeks. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Patients and caregivers should receive proper training prior to first use. Praluent is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) into the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm, using a single-used Prefilled pen. WARNING: This medication may cause serious hypersensitivity reactions, including serious allergic reactions. If signs or symptoms of serious allergic reactions occur, discontinue treatment. In addition to its desired action, Praluent (Alirocumab) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause pain at injection site, diarrhea, injection site reactions. It may cause liver enzyme disorder, cough, urinary tract infection. It may cause hypersensitivity reaction, muscle spasm, nasopharyngitis (an inflammatory attack of the pharynx and nasal cavities). Contraindications: Serious hypersensitivity to alirocumab or any component of the formulation. Taking Praluent (Alirocumab) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Praluent (Alirocumab) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Praluent (Alirocumab) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
