Description
Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole) is a combination of antibiotics. It is typically used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections (such as middle ear, urine, respiratory, and intestinal infections). It is also used to prevent and treat a certain type of pneumonia (infection of the lungs). It may also have other uses.

Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated and body weight. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to meals. WARNING: Trimethoprim - sulfamethoxazole may cause the levels of electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium, in the blood to change while taking Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole). If you experience symptoms of fluid and electrolyte imbalance such as muscle pains or cramps, achy, stiff, or uncoordinated muscles, tiredness, or weakness, contact your doctor as soon as possible. Kidney disease or reduced kidney function may cause Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole) to build up in the body, causing side effects, use with caution in patients with renal problems. People taking Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole) may have changes in liver function that produce abnormal liver test results, use with caution in patients with liver problems. In addition to its desired action, Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite It may cause allergic skin reactions such as rash It may cause liver injury, increased in potassium levels, low blood sugar levels, low sodium levels Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim, or any component of the formulation, history of drug induced-immune thrombocytopenia (disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding) with use of the drug, infants <2 months, infants <4 weeks, marked hepatic (liver) damage or severe renal (kidney) disease, concomitant administration with dofetilide A treatment with Sulfatrim Pediatric (Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
