Description

Apo Theo LA (Theophylline long-acting) is a bronchodilator. It is typically used to treat airflow obstruction in patients with chronic asthma (a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus) or chronic lung disease (e.g., chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining that carries air to and from your lungs) and emphysema (damage to the walls of the air sacs (alveoli) of the lungs)). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Apo Theo LA (Theophylline long-acting) is typically given every 12 hours. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Try to take the medication at the same time each day. Tablets may be cut in half if a score line appears on the tablet, but do not crush, chew or dissolve the tablets when you are taking them. Theophylline sustained release tablets that are not swallowed whole release the medication too quickly and may cause serious side effects.
 
WARNING: Use with caution in patients with heart disease as it may increase the risk of arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats). Use with caution in patients with liver disease, seizure disorders (a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain), hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). Elderly patients are at a higher risk of developing severe side effects (careful monitoring is required). 
 
In addition to its desired action, Apo Theo LA (Theophylline long-acting) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause tachycardia (fast heart rate), restlessness, agitation, difficulty sleeping.
It may cause nausea, headache, loss of appetite, stomach pain. 
It may cause weakness or tiredness. 
 
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Theophylline or any component of the formulation, coronary artery disease (a condition that affects your heart), peptic ulcers.
 
Taking Apo Theo LA (Theophylline long-acting) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
