Description
Clasteon (Clodronate) is a bone regulatory agent. It is typically used to treat hypercalcemia (high blood calcium) for people who have cancer. It is also used to treat cancer that has spread to bones (bone metastases) due to different types of tumors. It may also have other uses.

Clasteon (Clodronate) is typically used in a single dose or in 2 divided doses daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Clodronate capsules should be swallowed whole (not chewed) on an empty stomach while sitting in an upright position. Take Clasteon (Clodronate) with a glass of plain water, at least 2 hours before or after food. Do not take Clasteon (Clodronate) with milk. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication to prevent any irritation to your esophagus (the tube connecting the mouth and stomach). WARNING: Use with caution in renal (kidney) impairment. Use with caution in patients who have a history of esophageal disorders (disorders that affects your esophagus, the tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach). In addition to its desired action, Clasteon (Clodronate) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting. It may cause hypocalcemia (low blood calcium level), bone fracture. Contraindications: if you are allergic to clodronate or any ingredients of Clasteon (Clodronate), if you are allergic to other bisphosphonates (similar agents), if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are taking other bisphosphonate medications (e.g., alendronate, etidronate, risedronate), if you have reduced kidney function, if you have severe inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestines). Taking Clasteon (Clodronate) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Clasteon (Clodronate) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
