Description
Spiriva Respimat (Tiotropium respimat) is a bronchodilator. It is typically used for the treatment of asthma (narrow airways). It is also used the long-term relief of symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which includes chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining that carries air to and from your lungs) and emphysema (damage to the walls of the air sacs (alveoli) of the lungs). COPD is chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. It may also have other uses.

Spiriva Respimat (Tiotropium respimat) is typically inhaled as 2 puffs once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. to use the Respimat inhaler, the Respimat cartridge is inserted into the inhaler device. After the cartridge has been inserted into the inhaler, the device must be primed by loading a dose and pressing the dose release button with the inhaler pointed towards the ground, until a cloud of medication is released. This is repeated 3 more times to ensure that the inhaler is ready for use. Turn the clear base in the direction of the arrows on the label until it clicks (half a turn). Open the cap until it snaps fully open. Breathe out slowly and fully. Close your lips around the mouthpiece without covering the air vents. Point the inhaler to the back of your throat. while taking a slow, deep breath through your mouth, press the dose-release button and continue to breathe in. Hold your breath for 10 seconds or for as long as comfortable. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Tiotropium is intended for use with other medications to treat asthma (a respiratory condition marked by spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing). It should not be used to treat asthma alone. It does not provide fast relief from asthma symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath. Always carry a short-acting beta-agonist, such as salbutamol, with you to treat sudden flare-ups of symptoms. Tiotropium can worsen symptoms of bladder problems. Use with caution in patients with glaucoma (increased eye pressure), prostate hyperplasia (enlarged prostate gland), and in severe kidney impairment. Occasionally, inhaled Tiotropium may cause the airways to spasm and close up, making breathing even more difficulty (bronchospasm) and can be life-threatening. This product may contain lactose. In addition to its desired action, Spiriva Respimat (Tiotropium respimat) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause a bad taste in your mouth, a dry mouth or throat, voice changes or hoarseness, or nosebleed. It may cause constipation, cough, dizziness, skin infection or sores, sore throat, or infections of the sinus (hollow spaces within the bones between your eyes, behind your cheekbones, and in your forehead). It may cause a dry skin, joint swelling, rash, itching, or trouble sleeping. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ipratropium, tiotropium, or any component of the formulation. Taking Spiriva Respimat (Tiotropium respimat) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Spiriva Respimat (Tiotropium respimat) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
