Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine)

Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine) is typically used up to three times daily (Do not take more than 36 mg of tizanidine within a 24-hour period). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Tizanidine can be taken with or without meals, however taking tizanidine with food may increase the side effects of Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine). Always take tizanidine the same way, either with food or on an empty stomach.

WARNING: Tizanidine can cause changes to the normal rhythm of the heart, including an irregular heartbeat called QT prolongation. If you are at risk for heart rhythm problems, discuss with your doctor how Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine) may affect your medical condition. Symptoms of severe lowering of blood pressure, such as weakness or dizziness, particularly when rising suddenly from a sitting or lying position, may occur. People who are prone to low blood pressure (e.g., those taking diuretics) should be cautious when using Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine).

In addition to its desired action, Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause hypotension (low blood pressure), constipation. 
It may cause drowsiness and dizziness, sleepiness. 
It may cause xerostomia (dry mouth).
It may cause asthenia (lack of energy).

Contraindications: Patients who are hypersensitive to this drug or to any ingredient in the formulation or component of the container. Co-administration of tizanidine with fluvoxamine or ciprofloxacin is contraindicated. TIZANIDINE is contraindicated in patients for whom spasticity is needed to maintain function, such as maintenance of upright posture and balance in locomotion.

Taking Tizanidine HCl (Tizanidine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
